Last week, we learned the amazing power of superfoods and how they can accelerate your weight loss goals. Today, we are going to explore how these extraordinary consumables can rid toxins from your body.
With all the toxins in our environment, we must consume foods that protect us and help us detox naturally. The next 5 superfoods and beverages are going to cleanse you naturally.
As you may have heard, the majority of plastic water bottles contain Bisphenol A (commonly known as BPA). Over the past several years, many studies have shown the consumption of BPA’s increase the risk of breast, prostate and ovarian cancer. This is because BPA’s mimic estrogen in the body and interfere with your natural hormone levels.
Once I found this out, I immediately started researching the safest ways to consume water. After many days of research, I found it’s best to go with a glass water bottle to be 100% safe.
I highly recommend you purchase one for you and each member of your family.
I get asked all the time about detox and weight loss. These two goals tend to go hand in hand. And what I always tell people is that water is one of the best solutions to achieve both of these goals.
Because your brain often confuses dehydration with hunger, it’s important to make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. This will help with overeating. But if you have toxins in your water, those toxins get stored in your fat cells and they stay there until you clean them out.
Everyone knows water is the single most important element for survival. And what’s the best type of water? Clean water! Is should come to no surprise that the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found 316 different contaminates (including birth control pills and hormone therapy medications) in tap water throughout the USA.
So you may be thinking, “it’s okay, I drink bottled water”. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the National Resources Defense Council estimates that at least 25% of bottled water is really just tap water. And the EWG found the top 10 brands of bottled water contain 38 toxic pollutants including arsenic, fertilizers, heavy metals, industrial solvents and pharmaceutical drugs.
We covered the impact of grass-fed dairy in part one of our superfood series, but for dextox, we’re covering cultured dairy. Cultured dairy has high levels of lactic acid and probiotics that protect you against bad bacteria.
One study found amasi (a Kenyan cultured dairy food) to completely kill off E. Coli in only 2 days! That along makes this one of the most powerful superfoods on our list! Cultured dairy products also contain enourmous amounts of nutrients that help aid digestion.
Like most other products, the highest quality of cultured dairy is organic, from green-fed cows, low temperature processed or raw, and free of a harmful protein called beta-casein A1.
TIP: Impress your guest with cultured dairy at your next dinner party!
CHIA AND FLAXSEED
Native to Mexico, Chia also helps promote digestion and detoxify the body with a small amount of calories and packed with nutrients. Chia is also an excellent source of fiber as they contain about 11 grams per ounce. And in case you didn’t know, fiber consumption is key during your detox as it is a natural laxative.
Chia seeds are also a premium source of Omega-3 fatty acids. In fact, they contain more Omega-3s than salmon!
Another great source of Omega-3 and antioxidants is flaxseed. Flaxseed has all the great attributes as Chia and it has even shown to halt tumor growth.
Loaded with essential fatty acids, particularly the Omega-3s, they are essential for many cleansing functions and maintaining a healthy immune system.
TIP: Makes for a great addition to your shakes or yogurt!
That’s right, algae! You know the stuff in the ocean that makes you squirm when you step on it? Yeah, that stuff! Well not exactly. There are other types of algae that you are going to want to consume – like green, blue-green and brown seaweed.
All types of algae help stimulate your immune system, produce more white blood cells and improves your intestinal flora. It’s also high in fiber, making it an excellent food for a healthy digestive system.

TIP: Eat more sushi!
Cultured whey is a byproduct after milk has been coagulated with rennet to form cheese curds. In ancient Greece cultured whey was known as “healing water” as it was a recommended treatment by Hippocrates.
Their are 4 main benefits from consuming cultured whey: improves digestion, reduces blood pressure, eliminates toxins from your body, and is an effect remedy for constipation.
It even has a very high level of electrolytes, so it can also be used as a sports drink!
TIP: Start using cultured whey during your workouts!
